About Us
- We are an affiliated branch of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists. (NZSG)
- The NZSG is a national organisation of genealogists promoting the common goal of researching family and social history. They provide research material, library services, online access to searchable resources and volunteer assistance to members at the Family Research Centre in Panmure, Auckland. NZSG website link.
- Local autominous branches such as ours and interest groups have the same goals, but provide their own income from membership subscriptions, raffles, book sales and occassional seminars.
- For genealogical research purposes Hawke's Bay area covers Wairoa in the North through to Waipukurau in the South with Southern Hawke's Bay towns included in the Tararua District and the the Northern Wairoa and Gisborne towns and city included in the Tairawhiti district.
About Hawke's Bay Genealogy
- We are a registered charity. Our legal name is Hawke's Bay Branch of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists. Our Charities Commission number is CC37437.
- Our members come from Clive, Hastings, Havelock North, Napier, Waipukurau and surrounding districts.
- Our branch was formed in 1972 and we celebrated 50 years of providing genealogy advice and information at meetings and workshops in early 2022.
- The Hawke's Bay Branch badge as seen on each page of our website, was designed by former branch member Noala Coleman and born out of a banner that Noala designed for the 1991 NZSG Conference, hosted by Hawke's Bay at Lindisfarne College, Hastings. The design depicts Hawke's Bay with SUN-WINE-ART DECO-GANNETS and MAORI Culture.
